Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ's
How can counselling help me?
Counselling can be a very powerful way of getting to know yourself better and gaining a deeper understanding of how we relate to others. I can't give you advice or tell you what to do but I can offer you a supportive space where we can work on problems together. I believe that you are the expert on yourself but sometimes we may benefit from talking things over with a third party.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on what you are looking for but as a guide, short term therapy lasting from 6-12 sessions can be beneficial for some people, whereas other people may prefer to have longer term therapy. We can discuss your preferences at our initial session. I won't ask you to commit to a specific number of sessions but I would say that therapy works best when it happens regularly and when the client is willing to work with some potentially uncomfortable issues.
Do you work face to face or just online?
I work mainly online but I have some limited availability to offer face to face sessions. I am based in North Hertfordshire. If you are a student counsellor in the area and are looking for a face to face therapist, please ask me about this.
How do I pay you?
I ask for payment to be made on the day of your session by bank transfer.
Do I have to be neurodivergent to work with you?
No, not at all. Although I have a particular interest in neurodivergence, I'm trained to work with a range of people on common mental health issues.
Do you offer autism and ADHD diagnostic assessments?
No, as a counsellor this is not something I can provide. However, I am happy for you discuss your thoughts and feelings around seeking a diagnosis or self identification.
